HACKENSACK, N.J. – FDU women's basketball (16-3, 6-0) will look to continue their dominant season when they host Mercyhurst (7-12, 4-4) on Saturday afternoon. The Knights and Lakers will face off for the second time in program history, following FDU's road win in Erie on January 11.
The Knights head into Saturday's affair riding a program-record nine game win streak. FDU is also off to a program-record start to the season at their 16-3 mark. The squad is undefeated in conference play, and is beginning to chase down another program record in that category. The best start by an FDU team in conference play is 8-0, achieved by the 1992-93 Knights.
FDU will look to continue their defense of the Bogota Savings Bank Center in the 2024-25 season. The Knights have yet to lose at home, and sport a 9-0 record when playing in Hackensack.
The team heads into the matchup following a long break. The Knights last saw action on January 23, when they travelled to face Stonehill in North Easton, MA. FDU had one of their best offensive nights of the season in that match-up, leading to a 72-54 victory. Four Knights scored in double figures, and the team shot a blistering 44% from downtown. The team will seek to continue that offensive momentum after the time off.
As the Knights have hit conference play, they have unlocked another gear in graduate guard Abaigeal Babore. The Merchantville, N.J. native has been one of the Knights' top scorers in NEC contests, averaging 13.2 PPG across the Knights' six conference showdowns. Babore has scored in double figures in all but one of those games. The highlight of her season came the last time FDU and Mercyhurst faced off, when she dropped a career-high 22 points to lead FDU to their road win over the Lakers.
On the flipside, FDU will be tasked with stopping the number one scorer in the Northeast Conference. Junior forward Bailey Kuhns leads the NEC with 20.2 PPG across Mercyhurst's 19 games. Kuhns is a two-time NEC Player of the Week, and is the number 20 scorer in the nation. She dropped 19 on FDU in the last meeting.
It will be Girls and Women in Sports Day in Hackensack, with celebrations abound in the Bogota Savings Bank Center. The match-up will also kick off a doubleheader, with FDU and Mercyhurst's men's basketball teams taking the court following the conclusion of the women.
