FAIRFAX, VA – FDU women's volleyball finished their weekend at the George Mason Invitational earlier today with an afternoon matchup against Morgan State. The Knights closed out their last weekend of non-conference play with three wins, including this four-set victory over the Bears.
FDU came out hot in the first set, quickly taking a 9-0 lead over Morgan State with help from two service aces by senior
Hannah Schmidt and two kills by junior
Kylie Nott. Despite a brief comeback by the Bears, who were struggling offensively, the Burgundy and Blue were able to stay consistent and take the first set 25-16.
Set two saw back and forth action as FDU and Morgan State traded points, neither team giving up a lead of more than three. With three lead changes and 11 ties within the set, both teams struggled to get any run going. The Knights couldn't find their footing on offense, tallying 12 kills and nine errors for a low hitting clip of .083. The Bears were able to capitalize on the struggling FDU offense and took set two 26-24 to even the match score.
The Burgundy and Blue's front row found their footing again in the third set, hitting .360, with 13 kills on just four errors. A more consistent offense coupled with a scrappy defense allowed the Knights to cruise to a 25-18 set three victory.
Riding the momentum through set four, FDU tallied 14 kills, five blocks and one ace to take the set and match 25-21.
FDU was led by Nott, who totaled 13 kills and just one error for a hitting clip of .522. Schmidt gathered five aces on the match, to go along with her 25 assists.
