Box Score 2 PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – FDU women's volleyball continued their run in the Cherry and White Invitational today with two matches against Temple and Rider. Ending the day with two losses, the Knights now sit at 1-2 on their season.
Game one against Temple showed a competitive set one, as the Knights and Owls went back and forth, neither team allowing a run of more than three. Despite a late push by the owls to take a 19-15 lead, the Burgundy and Blue found momentum through kills by Junior
Kylie Nott and Sophomore
Kinsley Warbritton to tie the score up at 20-20. A resilient Knights squad couldn't find their footing on offense and dropped set one 25-27. The beginning of set two proved to be all FDU as they took a commanding 7-2 lead with help from two blocks courtesy of freshman
Lihi Zaibert. Coming back with vengeance, the Owls went on a 10-2 run to take a lead of 23-16. Hitting .429 on the set, Temple's fast paced offense proved to be too much for the Knights to handle as they dropped set two 17-25.
Playing off the momentum from set two, Temple clocked in a whooping 15 kills on only six errors to take the third set and match 25-18. The Owls held FDU to a .099 hitting clip on the night, while hitting .371 themselves.
The Knights were led by Junior
Kylie Nott who tallied 10 kills and one block on the match. Defensively, the Burgundy and Blue were led by sophomore
Kinsley Warbritton who totaled seven digs.
With a quick turnaround, the Knights headed back into action, taking on Rider in an afternoon matchup. Set one proved to be a tough offensive performance for FDU, who tallied only five kills, with five errors to go along with it. Thanks to a myriad of errors by Rider, the Burgundy and Blue were able to stay within four points the entire set. Without the offensive power they needed, the Knights dropped set one 21-25. Set three saw a livelier FDU squad, who tallied three blocks and three sets to go along with their 14 kills. With the steadier performance, the Burgundy and Blue were able to take set three 25-22.
The story of set three was all Rider as the Broncs cruised to a 25-14 victory, outperforming the Knights in almost every category. With 16 kills and just two errors, three aces and two blocks, the Rider squad put together an impressive performance to take the commanding victory. Set four saw a more disciplined and energetic FDU team, who totaled 12 kills on the set. Graduate Student
Eleonora Tosi tallied five kills, while Nott and sophomore
Avery Bain racked up three a piece.
Set five proved to be a fight as both teams traded points back and forth for the beginning eight points. A blocking error by Nott pushed the Broncs to eight, which was promptly responded to with a powering kill by Junior Mackenzy Ruggiero. Scrappy defense from libero
Emily Van O'Linda and defensive specialist
Jaden Reasor kept the Knights alive as the offense struggled to get a kill down. Rider's energy and offensive performance proved too much for the Burgundy and Blue as the Bronc's took the set 20-18 to win the match.
