PRINCESS ANNE, MD. – FDU Men's Cross Country took a trip down to Maryland Saturday to begin their 2024 season by running in the UMES Season Opener. The Knights placed second as a team out of the four competitors in Saturday morning's meet.
The Knights were led by Junior
Luis Abreu, who finished in sixth place, posting a time of 16:34.18. Abreu is the lone upperclassman represented on the Knights' 2024 roster. Despite the rest of the roster's youth, they showed up in a big way to help deliver the second place result for FDU. Freshman
Chase Lopez was the second Knight to finish, placing eighth in his first collegiate meet with a time of 16:50.22.
Lopez was shortly followed up by sophomores
Trevor Ehrlicher and
Brandon Barreto, who finished in ninth and tenth respectively, to round out the top ten of the race.
The Knights ultimately made up four of the top ten finishers, leading them to second place behind Norfolk State, who placed in first with each of the top four runners.
The result highlights the promising future for a young Knights team, who will look to grow on their success in their next meet at Saint Peter's on September 13.
