STONY BROOK, N.Y. – The FDU Knights kicked off a six-game road stint on Thursday night at Stony Brook. Despite taking a lead in the match's early stages, FDU surrendered the next three goals and fell by a score of 3-2.
Ana Salas opened scoring in the fifth minute. She took a ball courtesy of
Elisa Garcia, got in on her left foot, and slotted it past the keeper into the back of the net. The goal marked FDU's first of 2024 and Salas' sixth of her career. Garcia's first assist and first point of her career helped spring the Knights to a 1-0 lead.
It did not take long for Stony Brook to respond. Gabriella Cote's exceptional start continued with her third goal of the season that leveled the match in the 15
th minute. Cote has now recorded a goal for the Seawolves in all three games to begin the season.
Shots remained nearly even for the rest of the first half, with FDU holding a slim 8-7 edge in that department after 45 minutes. The teams headed to the break tied at 1-1.
Stony Brook came out in the second half as the aggressors. They tallied goals in the 48
th minute and the 52
nd minute to take a 3-1 lead.
The Knights were able to generate a few more chances down the stretch after falling behind. They were awarded a penalty kick in the 87
th minute that
Dominique Liberto converted for her first goal of the season. This would prove the be the last goal of the night in the 3-2 loss for FDU.
The Seawolves put eight shots on goal in the match, while FDU totaled seven.
Tonight's result drops FDU's record to 0-1-1.

The Knights are back on the road Saturday, August 24, at Navy. The match is scheduled for a 7:05 p.m. kickoff. The game will be aired on ESPN+.
