LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. – The FDU Knights (23-27, 16-13) took down the Siena Saints (10-39, 6-15) in their last mid-week matchup of the 2024 season by a score of 14-5.
Sophomore,
Jeremy Cheeseman started the day on the mound for FDU where he completed two successful innings of work.
The Saints got on the board first with one run in the first inning to open the game with a 1-0 lead.
The Knights, however, found an answer in the second inning where they scored four runs thanks to contact off the bats of
Ben Avila,
Tommy Verga and
Brian Sanders. Avila reached base on a fielding error along with Verga who both combined for three RBI's in the innings. Sanders drilled a ball into right field for an RBI double to give the Knights a 4-1 lead.
FDU scored a lone run from a ground-out courtesy of Sanders to bring in the runner on third in the fourth inning, extending their lead to 5-1.
With two singles from
Joan Sosa and Verga in the fifth, the Burgundy and Blue tacked on two more runs bringing their lead to 7-1.
Jeremy Cheeseman and
Joey DiMotta brought in two runs in the sixth along with Avila who singled to left center to score
Justin Sierra. The Knights lead 10-1 going into the bottom half of the inning.
Siena answered back with two doubles in the bottom of the sixth to score three runs. The Saints still trailed the Knights by a score of 10-4.
Sierra hit an infield single in the eighth to score Hunter D'Aamto who occupied third base. Sierra eventually brought himself home on a passed ball to bring the FDU lead up to 12-4.
The Knights tacked on two runs in the top of the ninth inning do to a double off the bat of Cheeseman to score
TJ Werner and Sanders.
Siena scored one more run in the bottom of the ninth inning but couldn't steal the lead from the Knights resulting in a 14-5 victory for FDU.
We saw
Jason Diaz,
Cole Vida,
Dante Edwardi,
Ben Pika,
Brian Yadlon and
Vladimir Ceverino make relief appearances pitching the final seven innings. The staff combined for nine strikeouts.
The Knights managed to pick up 15 hits and three walks in today's game. Five Knights picked up a multi-hit game with
Brian Sanders leading the way going 3-for-3 on the day with three doubles. D'Amato, Sierra, Avila and Sosa all recorded two hits apiece. Cheeseman, DiMotta, Verga and Werner tacked on one hit as well.

The Knights will return to action on Thursday, May 16 to take on Wagner on the road. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. and will be streamed on NEC Front Row.
