NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – The FDU Knights (15-24, 10-11) took on the Merrimack Warriors (19-22, 12-10) for game one of their three-game conference series which resulted in a 9-8 loss for the Knights.
Senior infielder
Hunter D'Amato had two homeruns in today's game to record two RBI's for the Knights.
Junior left-handed pitcher
Patrick Gardner started the game on the mound for FDU and completed six successful innings. Gardner struck out five in today's outing, issuing only three walks.
Merrimack got on the board first in the third inning where they scored two runs to take a 2-0 lead.
The Knights answered back with a monster fifth inning scoring six runs in the top frame.
TJ Werner started the scoring with a double to plate two runners.
Joan Sosa then reached base off an error and advanced to third scoring two more runs for the Knights.
Jeremy Cheeseman tacked on a run with a sacrifice fly.
Hunter D'Amato capped off the inning with a homerun over the right field wall.
The Warriors scored four runs in the seventh innings to close in on the Knights lead bringing the score to 7-6. Merrimack followed up in the eighth inning to tie up the game at 7-7.
With a double off the bat of
Justin Sierra in the top of the ninth inning which scored Sosa, the Knights took an 8-7 lead, but could not secure the win as the Warriors scored two off a homerun, resulting in a 9-8 loss for FDU.
We saw
Vladimir Ceverino and
Joey Kosowsky make relief appearances pitching the final two innings.
The Knights managed to pick up ten hits and two walks in today's game.
Hunter D'Amato and
Nick Quagliato picked up multi-hit games. Hunter went 4-for-5 at the plate today with two solo homeruns.
Justin Sierra,
Zack Will and
TJ Werner all recorded one hit each.

The Knights will return to action to continue their three-game series at Merrimack on Saturday, April 27. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
