TEANECK, N.J. – The FDU Knights (6-12, 4-2) closed their three-game series against the Stonehill Skyhawks (4-8, 0-3) with a dominant 9-0 victory to sweep the series.
The Knights were able to get on the board first in the bottom of the second inning from a two-out double from
TJ Werner to plate one.
The game was kept quiet for the following two innings, but the Knights offense exploded in the bottom of the fifth. Freshman
Nick Quagliato started off the fifth frame with a solo shot over the left field fence to get the Knights going. This marked the freshman's first collegiate homerun. With continuous contact throughout the lineup, FDU tacked on four more runs with RBI's credited to
Justin Sierra,
Hunter D'Amato and
Zack Will.
Sierra added another RBI to his resume in the sixth inning with a single up the middle to bring in another run for the Knights.
Will started the eighth inning off with a no-doubter shot over the right-center fence.
Brelon Harden kept FDU going with a single and was brought home by a Quagliato double to right center. FDU secured the 9-0 win over Stonehill.
FDU was led by a statement outing by graduate student,
Zac Capps on the mound. The Norfolk, Va. native pitched seven strong innings where he put 10 of the 24 batters he faced out by strikeout. Capps ended the day with no runs and no walks, only giving up two hits to the Skyhawks.
Nick Quagliato went 4-4 at the plate today with a homerun, a double and two singles. The freshman catcher contributed three runs and two RBIs in today's victory.
Justin Sierra was a menace on the basepath's today swiping three bags. The graduate student is one shy of 100 career stolen bases.
The Knights managed to pick up 13 hits in today's game. Four Knights managed to pick up multiple hits today with Quagliato leading the charge with four, Sierra with three and Will and Werner tacking on two of their own. D'Amato and Harden contributed a hit each as well.
Chris Mattioli and
Ian Barrett came in out of the bullpen for a combined two innings. The duo combined for three strikeouts to finish the game to complete today's shutout win over Stonehill.
UP NEXT
The Knights return to action on Wednesday, March 20 to face Marist at home. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.
