TEANECK, N.J. – The Knights extended their win streak to three games on Saturday afternoon with a 7-5 victory over the Stonehill Skyhawks; they improved to 3-2 in NEC play.
For the first time in 665 days,
Joey Kosowsky toed the rubber at Naimoli Family Baseball Complex. He was able to secure his first win of the 2024 season against the Skyhawks as he gave the Knights a quality outing by getting through six innings and giving up only four runs.
The FDU offense got after it early when
Brelon Harden gave them a 1-0 lead in the second inning after
Brian Sanders worked a walk and got himself into scoring position by swiping second base. The early lead was squandered in the next half inning when Trey Ciulla-Hall of the Skyhawks blasted a two-run home run to put the Stonehill squad up 2-1.
Platoon players
Franklin Gomez Jr. and
Zack Will picked up their starter in the bottom of the third by producing three runs to jump back in front with the lead. Gomez Jr. singled to the opposite field to drive in two runs before Will capped off the inning with a sacrifice fly that scored
Hunter D'Amato.
Both lineups went quiet for a few innings before Stonehill's Taylor Gaspar deposited a ball over the center field wall in the top of the sixth to tie the game at four apiece. The bottom of the inning saw Knights third baseman Will help put the FDU starter Kosowsky back in line for the win when he crushed his first career Division I home run to put FDU ahead 5-4.
Justin Sierra gave the Knights an insurance run with his second hit of the day when he shot a single to right field to drive in
Ben Avila.
Sophomore
Luke Russo picked up the final six outs of the game to earn his first career save. In his two innings of work he gave up one hit and was able to strikeout the final batter of the game.
The Knights will close out their three-game series against Stonehill Sunday, March 17 at Naimoli Family Baseball Complex. FDU fans can stream the action on NEC Front Row where they will be joined by the voice of FDU Baseball, Charlie Carbonetto.
