FDU Falls to Georgetown in Game One of Three Game Series, 12-9

TYSONS, Va. – The Knights opened their three-game series at Georgetown where they were able to pick up ten hits, but ultimately fell to the Hoyas 12-9. With this loss, FDU drops to 1-7 overall.

FDU allowed 13 hits while walking nine batters and striking out eight. Offensively, the Knights were able to strike first as a result of a Hunter D'Amato single in the third inning that scored two. Immediately following, Brian Sanders connected for a single to left field that scored one. Ben Avila saw opportunity knock with two runners on base hitting his own single to left field and picking up two RBI's. The Knights were able to put up a five frame on the board in the third inning to jump on an early lead.

Georgetown found answers to FDU's quick lead with one run in the bottom of the third to put them on the board. The Hoyas ability to keep the Knights offense quiet for three innings gave them the opportunity to close the deficit. Georgetown was able to add two more runs in the fourth, but their bats came alive in the sixth inning with six runs to take a lead over FDU. The Hoyas were able to gain their first lead of the day making it a 9-5 game in the sixth.

FDU answered the call with four runs to add as a result of D'Amato and Brelon Harden. Hunter D'Amato continues to impress at the plate. With his 200th career hit, the senior blasted the ball over the left field fence for a two-run homer. The Coral Springs, Fla. native now sits in eighth in the FDU baseball record book for most career hits. With two runners on, Harden found a spot of the ball in right field for a two-run double to tie the game at 9-9.

Georgetown tacked on one run in the bottom of the seventh and gave themselves breathing room in the eighth with two more runs to secure a 12-9 win.

Ben Pika, Luke Russo and Jeremy Cheeseman came in as relief for starting pitcher, Patrick Gardner, for a combined four innings.
