HACKENSACK, N.J.- In a highly-anticipated match with No. 10 Pepperdine, FDU fell by a score of 3-0 Saturday evening. The loss snaps a six-game FDU winning streak and drops their record to 6-2 overall. On the other side of things, the Waves were able to shake off a two-game skid and improve their record to 7-2.
An energized Knights squad took it to the visitors in the opening stages of the match. They rode their outside hitters to a 17-11 lead. Pepperdine cut the lead down to five at 21-16 and then exploded for a 10-3 spurt that helped them steal the set, 26-24.
Pepperdine capitalized on that momentum and leapt out to a set two lead of 12-4. The Knights were never in the set and dropped it 25-17.
FDU hung around in the third set and trailed 14-13 before the Waves utilized a 3-0 run that gave them the space they needed to complete the sweep. They won the third frame 25-18.
The Knights were led by
Jamal Ellis Carballo, who had 13 kills.
Ethan Young turned in 11 kills and three digs.
