SPARTANBURG, S.C. – As the Knights closed out their three-game series at Wofford, they fell to the Terriers 12-10. With this loss, FDU now drops to 1-6 overall.
FDU allowed 14 hits while walking seven batters and striking out eight. Offensively, the Knights were able to strike first as a result of a
Brian Sanders RBI in the first inning. Wofford found answers in the second with a lead off homerun that they were able to build off of by scoring three more runs before the end of the inning.
The Knights however saw opportunity with
Joan Sosa on base and
Jeremy Cheeseman at the dish. With the first FDU homerun of the season, Cheeseman launched the ball into orbit closing the three-run deficit to one.
The Burgundy and Blue loved lead off homers today.
Ben Avila and
TJ Werner both beamed the ball over the fence in lead off position. Avila and Werner both saw a home for the ball over the left field wall bringing the score to 8-5, FDU trailing.
With efforts in the seventh and eighth inning, the Terriers grew their lead to 12-5 over the Knights.
FDU came up just shy in the top of the ninth where they scored five runs in their last attempt to take the game. The Knights saw
Franklin Gomez Jr.,
Joan Sosa,
Hunter D'Amato, Werner and Sanders cross the plate. Despite a tremendous effort in the ninth, the Knights ultimately fell 12-10 to Wofford.
The Knights managed to pick up 11 hits from
Justin Sierra, Sosa, Cheeseman, D'Amato, Avila, Gomez Jr. and Werner.
Jake Simon,
Vladimir Ceverino and
Luke Russo came in out of the bullpen for a combined 5.1 innings in relief of starting pitcher,
Zac Capps.
