SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The FDU Knights baseball team dropped game two of its three game series against Wofford, 15-3, on Saturday afternoon at Russell C. King Field.
Joan Sosa led the Knights going 3-for-5 at the plate with a double and two runs scored. Jeremy Cheeseman went 2-for-3 bringing in a run and scoring one himself. Hunter D'Amato and Justin Sierra also chipped in RBIs.
The Knights kicked things off with a Sosa single on the first pitch of the game. Cheeseman followed that up with a four pitch walk to put runners on first and second with no outs. Skipper Manny Roman then called on reigning NEC First-Team selection D'Amato to drop down a sacrifice bunt which he did successfully. Wofford pitcher Zac Cowan buckled down and retired the next two FDU hitters to get out of the inning unscathed.
Wofford (5-1) broke through immediately scoring one run on a sacrifice fly to center field in the bottom of the first inning. The Terriers added another run in the bottom of the third inning this time on a sacrifice fly to right field.
FDU starter Joey Kosowsky battled through four strong innings giving up two runs (one earned) on three hits while punching out two.
Wofford put up a seven spot in the home half of the fifth. The runs were a result of three big hits with runners in scoring position putting the game out of reach for the Knights.
FDU scored their first run in the top half of the sixth on a D'Amato single that scored Sosa. The Knights tacked on two more runs in the top of the eighth on a Cheeseman RBI double and a fielder's choice.
The Terriers scored five more runs in the home half of the eighth inning to make it a 15-3 game.
