LORETTO, Pa. - Despite the snowy forecast, it was raining threes in DeGol Arena. FDU took on Saint Francis U in a road battle that resulted in a 68-48 victory for the Knights. With this win, FDU now sits with an 8-3 record in conference play and are 10-14 overall and have successfully clinched an NEC playoff berth.
The Knights shot just under 44% from the floor and went 8-21 (38.1%) from three. As Gaitley's bunch continues to impress with their improved offense, the Knights had four scorers in double figures tonight:
Staci Williams (20),
Teneisia Brown (12),
Abby Conklin (10) and
Abaigeal Babore (10).
FDU held Saint Francis U to single digit points in both quarters on the first half. When the Knights went into the break, they were up 38-13. FDU found steady production in the first quarter from across the board as five different scorers accounted for the team's 14 points. Brown led FDU with four points.
The second quarter was nothing short of a success for the Knights as they outscored the Red Flash 24-6. Williams came off the bench hot as she went 2-2 from the floor and cashed in on her trips to the charity stripe where she went 3-4 from the line, totaling eight points for FDU.
Wilma Sorensen crashed the glass hard collecting five rebounds for FDU with two assists in the quarter.
Saint Francis came out of the break with a new energy as they were able to match the Knights with 17 points each in the third. Conklin was responsible for six points for FDU as a result from going 2-3 from deep.
Despite outscoring the Knights in the final period, Saint Francis U could not find all the answers needed to come away with a win. The Knights ultimately won 68-48 and secured their spot in the NEC playoffs with today's victory.
Williams had a career night where she went 7-9 from the floor and shot 3-3 from deep, totaling 20 points and was able to pull in six rebounds.
In tonight's contest, we got to see
