SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – As the Knights continue their four-game set at San Francisco, they fell to the Dons in game three earlier today by a score of 9-7. With this loss the Knights are now 1-2 so far on the early season.
In his return to the mound, graduate student
Joey Kosowsky faced 26 batters in 4.1 innings today. Despite San Francisco's early jump to score, the Knights showed much fight in the top of the 4
th inning where they were able to get on the board with three runs as result of a selective eye in freshman
Jimmy Mantuano and a much-needed single from
JR Bozek which plated two runners.
In the top of the 5
th, senior
Hunter D'Amato was able to barrel up and connect for a triple down the right field line, scoring
Ben Avila. With a clutch pinch hit moment,
Jeremy Cheeseman found a hole in the right side to move D'Amato home. Keeping the rally going,
Brelon Harden knotted the game at 6-6 with a double to left field to score Cheeseman.
Despite the Knights threat to take the game with momentum from the top of the 5
th, San Francisco had answers for the damage FDU was able to make to the Dons lead as they pulled away with an 8-6 lead over the Burgundy and Blue.
The Knights couldn't find a way to capitalize on D'Amato's double to center field in the 6
th as the Knights stranded two runners on the base paths to close the inning.
San Francisco later plated one more run to secure a 9-7 win over FDU.
The Knights managed to pick up 11 hits from
Joan Sosa,
Brian Sanders,
Franklin Gomez Jr., Avila, D'Amato, Cheeseman, Harden and Bozek.
Chris Mattioli,
Jason Diaz and
Ian Barrett came in out of the bullpen for a combined 3.2 innings, letting only one run score.
