HACKENSACK, N.J. – FDU women's basketball (9-3, 0-0) defeated Maine (4-8, 0-0) by a score of 66-48 on the first day of the FDU Christmas Classic.
The Knights began the game in a 5-1 hole, but quickly flipped the script on Maine. FDU would score 16 unanswered to go into the second quarter with a 17-5 lead.
The hot start was propelled by a number of highlight plays in the first quarter. Kailee McDonald continued her torrid shooting streak, knocking down two threes in the first to build the Knights lead. FDU then finished off the quarter with an impressive buzzer beating layup down low by Teneisia Brown.
FDU's lead would only balloon from that point on, as the Knights stayed on the attack throughout the rest of the first half. They ripped off a 14-0 run throughout the majority of the second quarter, and went into the halftime break leading 37-20.
Maine began to tighten things a bit in the second half, but the FDU attack was simply too much to overcome. The Knights finished the game shooting a blistering 52.9% from downtown (9-for-17).
The Knights also saw an extremely balanced effort in the win, with three players (Ava Renninger, Teneisia Brown, and Abaigeal Babore) scoring in double figures. Several contributions were also made off the bench, including eight points from Kailee McDonald, and six from Rebecca Osei-Owusu.
