HACKENSACK, N.J. – A six-game road trip for FDU continues Saturday in Minneapolis. The Knights will take on the Gophers of Minnesota at 2 p.m. ET/1 p.m. CT on BTN. FDU enters the contest with a record of 4-9, while Minnesota's record reads 6-5.
This is just the second-ever meeting between these two programs. The Knights last made the trip to Minnesota on December 13, 2002. Minnesota came away with a 104-66 victory.
Hosting FDU marks a break from Big Ten play for Minnesota. The Gophers dropped their first two conference games against Michigan State and Indiana. Close games have been a norm for them with six of their games being decided by single digits. They are .500 (3-3) in those contests. All six of their wins have come at home inside Williams Arena.
The Gophers have played in their fair share of low scoring affairs. As an offense they average 65.4 points per game. Defensively, they allow just under 64. Their leading scorer, Dawson Garcia, is a 6'11 forward. The big man scores over 19 points a night and is a presence on the glass. In 2023-24, Garcia landed on the media's All-Big Ten Second Team. In two of his last three games, he has scored at least 22 points.
Contrarily, FDU continues to play in high scoring games. On Wednesday night, they fell by a score of 77-72 at La Salle. Terrence Brown led the Knights with 21 points, but Jameel Morris provided an important spark off the bench. The sophomore guard matched a career-high 13 points and contributed three steals. They were joined in double-figures by Jo'el Emanuel, who scored 12 points and secured six rebounds.
It was a good night for FDU in terms of sharing the basketball. The Knights created 18 assists on 28 made baskets. Brown led the team in this department with five dimes, but four Knights had at least three in the game.
72 points in that contest puts FDU's scoring average on the year at 80.2 points per game. This is good enough to lead the conference. The Knights have scored at least 70 points in five of six games against opponents from the ACC, Big East, Big Ten, and A10.
FDU will enjoy a week off for the holidays before heading to Boston College on Saturday, December 28. Fans can watch that one on the ACC Network starting at 4 p.m. ET.
