Box Score TEANECK, NJ - Junior forward
Matt Giraldo scored two first half goals in the regular season finale, helping secure a 4-1 victory over Saint Francis U (7-6-2, 5-2-1). FDU (9-4-4, 5-2-1) earned the number one seed in the Northeast Conference Championship that begins on Thursday, November 14 at University Stadium.
In the 11th minute, Giraldo was able to take advantage of poor passing by the Red Flash defense. After intercepting a pass, Giraldo flicked the ball around the goalkeeper and calmly put away the first goal of the afternoon. The second goal came in the 41st minute after junior
Takuto Nishide fed a great ball to Giraldo to bring the score to 2-0.
It remained 2-0 until the 71st minute when Saint Francis U capitalized on a corner kick, bringing the game back to a one-goal game. However, the Knights would finish the game off well in 82nd minute by graduate student
Alex Kryazhev. The Burgundy and Blue would tack on a fourth goal off a great low cross from Kryazhev to graduate student
Eric Dlabal.
"Another incredible performance from our guys tonight," said head coach
Jaymee Highcock. "We executed the game plan to perfection and we thoroughly deserved the win. The squad stepped up big time and earned the #1 seed for the tournament. We look forward to hosting the NEC Tournament and playing in front of our fans."
