Men's Basketball Preview: FDU Heads to West Point

HACKENSACK, N.J. – The FDU Knights (2-3, 0-0) head to West Point to take on Army (2-2, 0-0) on Wednesday, November 20, at 7 p.m. Fans who will not be in attendance at Christl Arena can watch the game on ESPN+ or listen live on the Varsity Network App.

FDU survived an impressive comeback bid from the Manhattan Jaspers in their 85-82 victory in Hackensack on Sunday afternoon. The Knights hit 10 of their first 11 shots en route to building a 17-point first half lead. Manhattan stormed back eventually holding a 82-77 lead with under two minutes to play. FDU paired two stops with two buckets in the paint to cut the lead to one, then Terrence Brown drew a goaltending call to help FDU take a 83-82 lead. He finished with a career-high 28 points. FDU closed the game on a 8-0 run.

Brown is now leading the NEC in scoring at 22.4 points per game and serves as FDU's leading rebounder. TB is coming off a career-high 28-point outburst against Manhattan. He has scored 18+ in all five contests this year, and averaged 20.0 points per game against Miami, Creighton and Nebraska. He is the reigning NEC Player of the Week.

Army is 2-2 this season with a couple of nail-biters under their belt. Their largest test came against Duke, a contest the Black Knights dropped 100-58. They did secure an opening night victory against UAlbany and just dropped an overtime game against Marist, 91-88. As a team, Army is shooting 46.2% from the field and making over 10 threes per game. They have three players averaging over 14 points per game, led by senior Jalen Rucker at 17.8 points per night. Army is coming off a year where they went 10-22 and have been picked seventh in this year's Patriot League Preseason Poll.

Head coach Kevin Kuwik is in his second season at Army. The Notre Dame graduate made stops at Butler, Davidson, Dayton, Ohio State and Ohio before getting the head job at West Point.

Army leads the all-time series over FDU 8-5. They last met on 11/18/19 in West Point and Army secured a comfortable 81-65 victory. The previous year in Hackensack, FDU took down Army 93-84 (12/12/18). Army has beaten FDU in five of their last six meetings, all by double-digits. These programs first met in January of 1969. A note - FDU has not played a Patriot League team since taking on Lafayette on 11/24/19, just six days after they last met Army.
