Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Great Eight! Knights Winning Streak Continues with Victory Over Stony Brook

STONY BROOK, N.Y. – Women's volleyball stretched their win streak to eight in a four-set win over Stony Brook. After dropping the first set, the Knights came back to win the next three in the Tuesday night non-conference affair.

Avery Bain powered the Knights' offense in the victory. She smashed 17 kills, which matched her season high. She was joined by MacKenzy Ruggiero, who produced 13 of her own.

Despite having four more kills, FDU dropped the opening frame 25-20. Stony Brook gained their advantage from behind the service line with six aces. This pressure plagued the Knights, who committed six reception errors.

The Knights cleaned things up defensively for a steadier second set. Yet, Stony brook held a lead from the first point for much of the game. However, FDU hung around was finally able to equalize at 18-18. Four different players then provided kills in a 7-5 Knights' run that gave them the set, 25-23.

Unlike the first two sets, FDU found considerable separation in the middle of the third frame. They used a 6-1 run to take a commanding 17-11 lead. Stony Brook did cut the lead to 20-17, but the Knights responded with three straight points to seize complete control. A Maria Cisneros service ace won the set, 25-21.

The Knights continued to roll right on through set number four. They hit a stellar .361 on their way to closing out the match, 25-17.15 kills in the fourth finished off a 57-kill night for FDU.

After not producing an ace in the first set, FDU found 10 aces in the final three frames. This has been a continued theme for the Knights, who had 11 aces in just three sets in their last match.
