HACKENSACK, N.J. – FDU women's volleyball played their first of two matches against new NEC addition Mercyhurst. The Knights had a strong showing, outperforming the Lakers in almost every category to secure their first win of the weekend.
Despite a slow start for FDU, the Knights were able to rally together with two aces, three blocks and 15 kills to take set one 25-22. Tied at 20-20, sophomore
Avery Bain came alive in the last five points, logging three kills to keep the Burgundy and Blue ahead of the Lakers and secure a 1-0 match lead.
Set two started competitive, as both teams fought back and forth to take a lead. The Knights were able to take control of the match with an 11-4 run to gain a comfortable 18-9 lead in the set. With the momentum in the favor of FDU, a series of kills from Bain, junior

Angela Marchetto propelled the Burgundy and Blue to a 25-15 set two victory.
Set three saw a consistent FDU squad, who tallied 12 kills on only four errors for a hitting clip of .292. The Lakers were plagued by errors, racking up nine attacking errors and two missed serves. With the energy and consistency on their side, the Knights were able to keep the ball rolling and win their nineth consecutive match with a 25-19 set three victory.
The Burgundy and Blue were led by Bain, who tallied 10 kills on the night. Junior
Kylie Nott had 2.5 blocks and a total of 10.5 points to lead the Knights.

The Knights will face Mercyhurst again tomorrow (10/12) at 1 pm in the Bogota Saving Bank Center. FDU will look to stretch their win streak to ten and remain undefeated in NEC play for the second weekend of conference play.
