SYRACUSE, N.Y. – FDU women's volleyball opened NEC play earlier today with one of two matches against Le Moyne this weekend. Despite a slow start by the Knights, the reigning NEC Regular Season Champions found their footing and beat the Dolphins 3-1.
Set one was all Dolphins as the Knights struggled on both offense and defense. With five service errors and five attack errors, the Burgundy and Blue found themselves unable to score consistently. Defense proved not much better, as FDU tallied only five digs and no blocks. A hot hitting Le Moyne team cruised past the Knights to take set one 25-20.
Coming back with vengeance, the Burgundy and Blue jumped out to an early 15-8 lead to start set two. Finding their footing on offense, FDU hit an impressive .433 on the set, tallying 14 kills and only one error. Despite a brief comeback by Le Moyne, they were not able to find an answer for the Knights front row and lost the set 21-25.
With the momentum, the Knights were able to find a rhythm that held for the next two sets. The Dolphins found themselves plagued by unforced errors, totaling 16 service mistakes on the match. The struggling Le Moyne team coupled with a consistent FDU offense allowed the Knights to secure their first conference victory.
The Burgundy and Blue were led junior
Giorgia Vaschetti, who tallied 10 kills on the night. She was followed by
Kylie Nott and
MacKenzy Ruggiero who both logged nine kills apiece. Graduate student
Eleonora Tosi also had an impressive match, totaling seven kills, four aces and two blocks.
