Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Sweep of Blue Devils Leads Knights to Eleventh Consecutive Victory

NEW BRITAIN, CONN.  – FDU women's volleyball opened their third weekend of conference play with a sweep win over Central Connecticut State earlier today. Despite a slow hitting day, the Knights were able to find a rhythm and capitalize off mistakes to capture their fifth NEC victory.

Set one saw the Knights jump to an early 10-3 lead, courtesy of five attacking errors and two missed serves by the Blue Devils. The mistakes kept piling on for CCSU, who logged
12 kills and 11 errors on the set for a hitting percentage of .020. The Burgundy and Blue were able to capitalize, tallying five block, three aces and seven kills to take set one 25-19.

Set two was all FDU, as the Knights took a commanding 25-10 victory. The Burgundy and Blue totaled 11 kills and just three errors for a hitting clip of .308. Sophomore Avery Bain tallied four on the set, leading the team. Defense was also consistent, only allowing the Blue Devils three total kills.

Riding off the momentum from sets one and two, the Knights were able to take an early lead. Despite a better performance from CCSU, who kept the lead within five, the Blue Devils were not able to find an answer for the scrappy FDU squad. Two kills by junior MacKenzy Ruggiero and a match point kill by Maria Cisneros secured the Knights' eleventh consecutive victory.

The Burgundy and Blue were led by Bain, who tallied 7 kills on the night. She was followed by Ruggiero and junior Kylie Nott who both logged 4 kills. Defensively, FDU was led by senior Emily Van O'Linda who totaled 14 digs on the match.
