NEW CASTLE, Del. – The no. 20 FDU Knights began their season at the Bud Whitman Memorial hosted by Chestnut Hill this weekend. The Burgundy and Blue posted a 7-3 record and captured the championship crown when it was all said and done on Sunday evening.
The Knights faced off against former NEC rival no. 18 Sacred Heart in the championship round. FDU trailed 2-1 after the first three games of the best-of-seven, but then ripped off three straight wins, improving on their score in each game to win the title.
Allysha Howard was named the Bud Whitman Memorial MVP and singles champion. She finished day one of the event with a 220.2 average per game, the highest of any bowler in the field.
The Knights posted a 3-2 record on day one and a 4-1 record on the second day of the event. They did avenge two of those losses, coming back to beat Kutztown and Sacred Heart in the knockout rounds after falling to each of them earlier in the weekend.
