FARMINGDALE, N.Y.- The fall season began for FDU with a weekend at Bethpage State Park for The Doc Gimmler hosted by St. John's. The Knights battled through rainy conditions to a tied for 11
th finish out of 15 teams.
FDU posted scores of 282, 286, and 293 for a team total of 861 (+21).
Pyae Phyo Thu, who is coming off a strong sophomore campaign, paced the Knights in the first event of his junior season. His -3 finish after scores 70, 68, and 69 placed him in a tie for 11
th at the end of the day Sunday.
Jake Portugal, who was one of two Knights who made their collegiate debut this weekend, kicked off round one with a 71. Back-to-back 73's in the final two rounds culminated in a +7 for the tournament. This tied the FDU Freshman for 54
th.
Jake Lowis tied for 67
th with a score of +10.
Freshman
Ricardo Velasquez made his first tournament a memorable one when he struck an ace on hole #17 in the second round on Saturday. The ball traveled 158 yards before finding the cup. Overall, Velasquez finished +11 (T69).
Thomas George (T76) rounded it out for FDU with a +15.
Columbia's Nathan Han claimed the individual crown with a -14. Columbia (-29) also grabbed the title.
What's Next
The Knights will head north for the Ryan T. Lee Memorial Collegiate on Saturday. The event will conclude a day later on Sunday, September 17
th. The designated track for the event is Shuttle Meadow Country Club in Kensington, C.T.
