BETHLEHEM, Pa. - FDU men's cross country ventured into their first meet of 2023 Friday as the Knights competed in the Lehigh Invitational. The meet marked the first cross country event for head coach
Wesley Stephens who joined the Burgundy and Blue in the midst of the indoor season in 2023.
The young Knights sent four rookies out on the course and newcomer
Trevor Ehrlicher, a sophomore. The lone returner from last year's squad, sophomore
Luis Abreu, also made his season debut.
Ehrlicher paced the Knights, clocking a final time of 20:16.2. He posted a mile time of 5:26.1 in the 6,000 meter race, finishing in 72nd place individually. Abreu followed close behind in the 74th spot, posting a total of 20:18.0 at the Goodman Cross Country Course.
As a team, Stephens' Knights finished seventh out of seven competing institutions with Saint Joseph's taking the top slot, followed by: Penn; Lehigh; Moravian; DeSales; Muhlenberg and FDU.
"This is a young scrappy group, that will continue to progress as the season progresses," said Stephens. "Today they put out a tremendous effort and we look forward to getting back to work tomorrow."
FDU returns to action on Saturday, September 16 in Montgomery, N.Y. as the Burgundy and Blue battle in the Jaspers Fall XC Invite, hosted by Manhattan at Twin Ponds on the FARM.
