QUEENS, N.Y. - The FDU women's soccer team fell to St. John's 3-0, in its season opener Thursday night (8/17) at Belson Stadium.
Jordyn Levy opened the scoring for the Red Storm in the 4th minute off a corner kick assisted by Frederique St. Jean and Jessica Garziano.
FDU had a chance to equalize in the 16th minute on a penalty kick taken by senior
Lina Dirnberger which was saved by Maria O'Sullivan with an outstretched arm in the bottom left corner.
Neither side managed any further shots on goal in the first half.
St. John's added on to its lead in the 52nd minute on a goal scored by Athina Sofroniou.
The Red Storm tallied their third goal in the 59th minute scored by Lauryn Tran with the assists going to Jessica Garziano and Mia Agresti.
"Obviously we didn't want to give up a goal early into each half but two things we are happy with are that we played our style throughout the match and showed great character." Teepe stated "We want to have players that are always looking for a challenge, by putting these types of challenges in front of the team it will only make us stronger and better as a team no matter the outcome"
The Knights return to action this Sunday (8/20) for their home opener against Monmouth, with kick off scheduled for 12pm at University Stadium in Teaneck, New Jersey.
