LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - The Knights traveled to upstate New York to take on the Siena Saints. The midweek battle was a back and forth game until the Saints pulled out with the 8-6 win.
The Knights offense was on fire early as they scored four runs in the first five innings. The big blow from the FDU offense came from
Tommy Verga when he blasted an RBI double into the left center gap to extend the Knights lead. Heading into the bottom of the fifth the Knights led 4-0 and starter
Nicholas Mazzotta had dealt three scoreless innings with two strikeouts.
Lukas Prokosch relieved Mazzotta in the fourth and after a perfect inning he ran into trouble in the fifth inning. The Saints slugged a grand slam to tie the game at 4-4; Prokosch got the final out and then was replaced by
Evan Stewart in the sixth inning. The FDU defense struggled in the sixth inning with Stewart on the mound and they relinquished two runs and watched Siena take a 6-4 lead.
Despite giving up the lead the Knights offense battled back in the seventh inning when head coach
Manny Roman looked to the bench to provide a spark. Max D'Alessandro answered the call and blasted a game tying two-run home run. After tying the game in the top of the seventh the Saints took back the lead after they responded with a two-run home run for themselves. The 8-6 lead was enough for the Siena bullpen as they stifled the FDU bats for the final six outs of the game to pick up the win and split the season series with FDU.
The Knights will be back in action for their final regular season game of the season on Saturday as they take on Saint Peter's in a weekend non-conference matchup. The game will take place at Jaroschak Field in Jersey City, N.J at 1 p.m.
