NORTH EASTON, MA - The FDU Knights and Stonehill Skyhawks went head to head in game two of their three game slate on Friday evening. The Knights got a great outing from
Rich Racobaldo on the mound and
Justin Sierra at the plate to lead the squad to a 8-6 victory for their seventh straight win.
The Knights have been able to jump on teams in the early innings this season and continued that trend by putting up a crooked number in the first inning. The inning was ignited when
Joan Sosa led the game off by reaching first on an error and
George Rosales took no time to blast a single to right field to drive in Sosa and get an early 1-0 lead. FDU was not done there as Sierra knocked a single to left field to drive in Rosales and
Brian Sanders who also reached on a fielding error; this was just the beginning of a huge day for Sierra at the plate.
Knights starting pitcher, Racobaldo, allowed only one run over five innings while striking out six Skyhawk batters. The only run allowed came in the second inning after a pitch got away and the runner was able to score on a wild pitch to cut the FDU lead to 3-1. This was the eighth start of the year for Racobaldo who has now pitched exaclty five innings in every start and has dropped his season ERA to 4.50. The strong outing on the mound was good enough for him to pick up his fourth win of the season.
The Knights capitalized in the middle innings as they scattered five runs between the third and sixth innings. Sierra continued his monster day in the third inning when he blasted an opposite field home run to extend the Knights lead to 4-0 before they added three more runs in the fourth inning. The outburst in the fourth was lead by none other than Sierra who drove in his fourth and fifth RBIs of the day with a single to left field. The Knights star center fielder was not done there as he picked up his sixth and final RBI in the sixth inning with an infield single that allowed
Tom Ruscitti to score.
The FDU bullpen allowed five runs in four innings, however, only two of them were earned due to a passed ball and wild pitch.
Brendan Medoro entered the game in the ninth inning with a 8-6 FDU lead and a chance to pick up his first save of the season. Three ground outs with a single in the middle was good enough for him to pick up the save and seal the win for the Knights.
FDU and Stonehill are back in action tomorrow afternoon as the Knights will be going for their second straight weekend sweep. First pitch will happened at 12 p.m. at Lou Gorman Field and fans at home will be able to watch on NEC Front Row or follow live updates on Twitter
