Knights Pile on 12 Runs to Defeat Norfolk State on Little League Day

TEANECK, N.J. - FDU hosted local little league teams for their annual little league day at Naimoli Family Baseball Complex. Last year when the Knights hosted this event Joan Sosa sent the kids home with smiles when he blasted a walk-off two-run home run to beat the Sacred Heart Pioneers. This year the Burgundy and Blue did not disappoint as they took down the Norfolk State Spartans by a score of 12-5.

how it happened

The Knights wasted no time getting on the scoreboard when Tom Ruscitti and Hunter D'Amato each drove in runs to give FDU a 3-0 lead. The continued story for the Knights on offense is around D'Amato keeping alive his 30+ straight game on-base streak in which he extended to 35 games with the RBI single in the first inning. FDU put the game out of reach in the third inning when they dropped five runs on Spartans starter Zac Capps to extend their lead to 8-1. The third inning saw FDU send nine batters to the plate with Brian Sanders putting an exclamation point on the inning with a two-run moonshot home run to right center field.

Knights starting pitcher Rich Racobaldo had previously pitched exactly five innings in every start this season before giving manager Manny Roman one of the better starts of the season. He picked up his fifth win on the season after mowing down Spartan hitters for seven innings and only allowing two earned runs with eight strikeouts.

Racobaldo departed to begin the eighth inning after FDU put up a four spot in the bottom of the seventh inning to extend their team lead to 12-3. A full capacity stadium at Naimoli watched Brelon Harden and George Rosales drive in two runs apiece on singles in the inning which ended up being the final nail in the Spartans coffin. Roman gave the ball to Shane Sax for the final six outs of the game and despite allowing two runs he closed out the game by punching out two NSU batters.

FDU will host NSU in the final game of their weekend series at Naimoli tomorrow afternoon at noon. The Knights will be looking to pick up their third series sweep of the season and pick up their 24th win of the season. Fans at home will be able to watch the game on NEC Front Row or follow live updates on Twitter @FDUKnightsBASE.
