Box Score FAIRFIELD, CT - The Knights traveled to Connecticut to begin a three game series against conference rival Sacred Heart. The Knights entered the series with a 20-10-1 record and the Pioneers hosted a 14-15 record. Game one of the three game set did not go the Knights way as they dropped the matchup 8-4.
Jude Baxt got the start for the Knights in Fairfield and was not treated nicely by the Pioneers. They jumped on him in the first inning for two runs which ended up as just the beginning for a long day on the mound. Baxt finished four innings while giving up six hits and seven runs with five of them being earned against his record; he was only able to strike out three Sacred Heart batters.
The FDU offense was uncharacteristically cold as Pioneer starter Jake Babushack was able to keep the Knights bats at bay. The Burgundy and Blue were held hitless for the first seven innings until Hunter D'Amato was able to drive a single into the outfield for the first hit of the game; that hit extended his on-base streak to 30 games. The single helped FDU pick up their first run of the game when Brelon Harden picked up a hit to center field to drive in D'Amato. A ninth inning rally from the Knights put pressure on the Pioneers but the comeback fell short and FDU dropped the game 8-4.
FDU will look to get back in the win column tomorrow as they take on Sacred Heart for game two of their three game set at 1 pm. There will not be a live stream, however, fans at home can listen to live audio of the game on the SHU Big Red network or follow live updates on Twitter @FDUKnightsBASE.
