Knights Drop Midweek Battle vs. Rider Despite Solid Start From Baxt

TEANECK, N.J. – The FDU Knights played host in a non-conference midweek matchup against the Rider Broncs today. The teams battled back and forth in an exciting 2:48 min game in which the Broncs edged the Knights by a run; 7-6.

How it happened

Jude Baxt got the start for the Knights and after surrendering a run in the first inning on a sac fly by Brian Skettini of the Broncos he settled down nicely to pitch four one-run innings and strikeout three batters; he finished with a no-decision on the night.

The Knights bullpen had an up-and-down day after Baxt gave them the ball. Jake Simon and Evan Stewart gave FDU three scoreless innings out of the 'pen, but Jason Diaz, Thomas Spiwak, and Nicholas Mazzotta relinquished six runs in four innings on four walks.

The Knights offense had another big game; they scored runs every half inning after Rider scored a run until the eventual winning run in the 9th inning. The Burgundy and Blue trailed Rider 3-1 in the 5th until Tom Ruscitti stepped up to the plate and mashed his fourth home run of the season driving in Justin Sierra and TJ Werner to give the Knights a 4-3 lead.

Ruscitti and Hunter D'Amato both picked up two hits in today's contest with Ruscitti driving in four of the six runs.

Despite the Knights best efforts, they could not overcome the Broncs and they dropped the game 7-6.

FDU will be back in action this weekend when they host LIU Sharks for a three-game set for their first Northeast Conference action of the season. Knights fans can watch the action on NEC Front Row.
