TEANECK, N.J. – The FDU Knights played host to the LIU Sharks on Friday afternoon as both teams opened up conference play. The Knights came into the three-game set with a 5-5-1 record and the Sharks held a tough 0-11 record. The game-one starters were
Ethan Rembish for FDU and Alec Huertas for LIU. The Knights came to play at the dish and on the mound beating the Sharks 11-2.
The Southington, Conn. junior Rembish got the ball for the Knights and kicked the weekend off the right way with a gem. He mowed down the Sharks for five innings while only giving up two runs and striking out four batters. This was the best start of the season for Rembish and has now given him two quality starts in a row, which will be needed if
Manny Roman's squad wants to have a successful season.
The great pitching did not stop with Rembish; he departed in the sixth inning for
Ian Barrett who pitched three scoreless innings before
Brendan Medoro came in and closed the game out in the ninth inning with two strikeouts.
Despite the great efforts on the mound, the Knights offense was still the story of the day as they drove in 11 runs behind three RBI's from
Tom Ruscitti and
Hunter D'Amato, who both also happened to blast home runs off of LIU pitchers. Shortstop
Joan Sosa also drilled a monster home run to left field and drove in two runs on a solid 2-for-3 at the plate. Eight of the nine FDU starters were able to pick up one or more hits on the day for a total of 12 in the game.
The LIU pitching staff struggled to throw strikes and limit the Knights offensive outburst; however, they saw Carlton Harper, JC Navarro and Connor Price each pick up two hits and Jake Mastillo drilled a home run off of Rembish in the 5
th inning.
FDU and LIU are back at it tomorrow afternoon when
Rich Racobaldo will take the bump for the Knights who will be looking for the series win. Fans can tune into the game at 1 p.m. on NEC Front Row.
