BELMONT, N.C.- FDU dropped a five-set marathon to Belmont Abbey on Thursday night in a match that included a rare third set score of 31-29.
This was the second meeting between the two teams this season. FDU took the first matchup in Atlantic City back in early January. That rendition lasted four sets.
Jamal Ellis Carballo continued his dominant run with 21 kills on a .189 hitting percentage. This marks a career high for the freshman. Carballo was one of three Knights with double-digit kills. He was joined by Jack Lydon and Artem Vetrov, who had 13 and 10, respectively.
Belmont Abbey won a back-and-forth first set, 25-22. FDU was able to regroup and draw even rather easily with a 25-18 second set victory. The third set went the distance and then some with the Crusaders coming out on top 31-29. The Knights rallied to force a fifth set winning the fourth, 25-21. However, Belmont Abbey bounced back to win the fifth, 15-8.
As a team the Knights hit .255 for a total of 65 kills. The Crusaders were slightly more efficient hitting at a .270 clip.
The Knights are back in action tomorrow night in Virginia as they take on George Mason at 7pm on ESPN+.
