BRIDGEWATER, N.J. - No. 14 FDU women's bowling sophomore
Allysha Howard led the Northeast Conference with a 20.93 frame average in 104 frames of Baker action, earning the Downey, Calif. native NEC Bowler of the Week as the Knights went 7-3 over two days at the Chestnut Hill Baker Classic.
Howard paced the league with 58 strikes, striking in 55.8 percent of her 104 attempts and 84.6 percent of her first balls averaged nine or more pins as she finished the weekend averaging out 9.33 sticks per first ball. The Knights' lone southpaw was clutch in spares hitting 32-of-39 in makeable tries (82.1 percent) and converted all but seven nine-count spare attempts, chalking up 24-of-30 (80 percent), good for a top 20 finish in the NEC.
Seeing action in the anchor position, the second-year Knight averaged 26.67 in 10th frame first balls in three attempts, though the majority of her action came in the leadoff spot as she saw 45 frames of work, filling 84.4 percent of her first frames bowled, coupled with a strike percentage of just shy of 50 percent.
Doubling up to secure wins in Baker play, Howard's scorecard finished first in the league in Baker doubles as she converted 15-of-24 attempts to double-up - a mark of 62.5 percent.
Joining Howard in receiving conference recognition are seniors
Ashley Sham and
Julianna Spina who finished second and third, respectively, in scoring behind Howard with averages of 20.17 and 20.09. Fifth-year
Natalie Swindell wasn't far behind, finishing the weekend fifth in scoring with 19.89 to earn herself a Prime Performer nod.
FDU women's bowling returns to action on Saturday, February 11 with the USBC Suffolk Tournament, the final tune-up before the last NEC meet of the regular season.
