Knights Secure Sole Possession of the NEC Regular Season Title with Win over the Terriers

BROOKLYN, N.Y. - The FDU Knights traveled to St. Francis Brooklyn to face off in their second to last regular season contest. FDU dominated the Terriers on their home court to secure sole possession of the NEC Regular Season title with a 67-48 win. This was the 21st win of the season for the Knights, which has now made the 2022-23 team the most-winning in program history. The Burgundy and Blue will look to add one more regular season win to their belt on Thursday when they travel to Stonehill to wrap up their conference schedule.

how it happened

This win was a typical Angelika Szumilo coached team win; the Knights played defense and shot efficiently from the field. FDU shot 41% from the field, which is a lower number than usual for the Knights and they held the opposing Terriers to just 33% over four quarters. Once again the Knights dominated a team on the glass, outrebounding SFBK 39-to-30 and securing 14 offensive rebounds to just six from the Terriers. FDU went into the half with a seven-point lead and never looked back. They shot a staggering 50% from the field in the third quarter and outscored SFBK 18-6.

The Knights dominating performance saw contributions all throughout the lineup starting from the top with junior Chloe Wilson. Wilson was a rebound shy from recording her fourth straight double-double; she had 20 points and nine rebounds. Pittsburgh, Pa. native Sierra DeAngelo has been heating up as of late and she did not slow down with today's 13-point and six-rebound performance. She recorded six points in the last minute of the first half to help extend the Knights lead. Miranda Elebring and Abby Conklin provided a punch off the bench with Conklin drilling three three-pointers in 20 minutes of action and Elebring shooting a perfect 3-for-3 from the field with six points and eight rebounds.

The ongoing story continues to be from Spanish guard Celia Carbonell, who extended her consecutive games with a made three-pointer streak to 16 games. Carbonell started the game 0-for-3 from beyond the arc before drilling back-to-back triples midway through the third quarter. She finished with 10 points, four rebounds, and three assists.
