Knights Drop Slugfest to Open Series vs. Queens (N.C.)

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Knights made the trek to the Carolinas for the second time in a week. This time around they are facing off against a first-year division I program, Queens University. Friday evening the two teams battled it out in a slugfest in which Queens won 13-12. FDU trailed 6-0 in the first inning and battled back from multiple deficits in the game but could not hold on to their 12-11 lead in the 8th inning.

Innings 1-3
  • Queens came out the gates hot putting up a six spot in the bottom of the 1st (0-6)
  • Luke Cantwell got the Knights in the run column with a single to right field in the second inning (1-6)
  • FDU exploded for four runs in the top of the third behind hits from Brian Sanders and Hunter D'Amato (5-7)
  • The Royals homered in the bottom of the third to (5-9) 
Innings 4-6
  • Tom Ruscitti drove in his first run of the game with a single to left in the fourth before Sanders knocked in his second and third runs of the game in the sixth (8-9)
  • Queens extended their lead with a two-run double in the sixth (9-11) 
Innings 7-9
  • The Knights trailed by three heading into the final third of the game when Cantwell and TJ Werner tied the game with a double and single in the seventh (11-11)
  • Justin Sierra had the clutch gene when he knocked in the go-ahead run to cap off a massive three-run seventh inning (12-11)
  • In the bottom of the eighth, the Knights relinquished the lead and could not get it back in their final three at-bats (12-13)

  • Werner had a three-hit night
  • Joan Sosa, D'Amato, Cantwell, and Ruscitti all drove in at least one run
