HACKENSACK, N.J. - The FDU Knights played host to the Saint Francis (Pa.) Red Flash on Thursday night and routed them by a score of 63-39. Tonight's win and a loss from NEC rival Sacred Heart clinched the Knights at least a share of the NEC Regular Season Championship. The win over SFU gave the Knights their first 20+ win season since the 1991 season when they won 23 games.
The Knights and Red Flash played a first quarter that lacked offense as both teams shot just 21% from the field and saw neither team score double-figures. FDU held onto a small 9-7 lead going into the second quarter before their offense and defense took off and dominated the Red Flash. The Burgundy and Blue outscored Saint Francis 54-32 in the final 30 minutes of play. After shooting just 21% in the first quarter the Knights shot 48.8% the rest of the way which included making 8-of-20 three-pointers after missing their first six threes. One of the more dominating facets of the Knights game tonight was how they out-rebounded the Red Flash 45 to 31 on the night; including doubling them up on the offensive glass.
The Knights were led by a tremendous performance from junior
Chloe Wilson who picked up her seventh double-double of the season. Wilson scored 17 points, 11 rebounds, and four rebounds to help FDU win by 24 points. Wilson wasn't the only Knight to have a big game against SFU, as
Sierra DeAngelo pitched in 15 points and six rebounds on an efficient 6-for-9 from the floor.
Dahomée Forgues and
Ella Fajardo gave the Knights 22 combined points with Fajardo getting 11 off the bench.
Celia Carbonell, a senior from Spain extended her consecutive three-point made streak to 15 games with a triple with 2:38 remaining in the game.
- The Knights will look to clinch the NEC Regular Season Championship on Saturday as they travel to Brooklyn, N.Y. to face off against St. Francis Brooklyn. The game will take place at 1 p.m. and Knights fans can watch on NEC Front Row.
