Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Knights Come Back from 14-Point Deficit, Fall to Sacred Heart in Overtime Classic

FAIRFIELD, Conn. - Seeking to earn a split of the season series with Sacred Heart, FDU men's basketball visited the Pitt Center in Fairfield as the Knights also looked to gain ground in the Northeast Conference standings after slipping from first to behind Stonehill and Merrimack. The Knights turned the ball over 10 times in the first half but refocused and came out firing in the final 20 minutes of regulation to erase a 14-point deficit and force overtime in the final seconds of the period.

Field goal shooting wasn't an issue in the opening 20 as the Tobin Anderson-coached Burgundy and Blue shot 12-for-26 from the field (46.2 percent), though it was a game of runs for both sides. Fifth-years Grant Singleton and Demetre Roberts put up the first four points of the evening for the Knights as FDU eyed moving to 6-0 in NEC play this season. The duo combined for 15 first half points which would be cancelled out by 18 points off turnovers for the Pioneers to open things up.

After the break, FDU fired on all cylinders on a 9-3 run to chip away at the double-digit Sacred Heart lead. Sean Moore was brilliant for FDU as the junior shot 5-for-6 in the second half with 11 points in the final 16 minutes of play. The Columbus, Ohio native provided a much-needed spark down the stretch as FDU came within as few as two before Roberts poured-in a layup to tie the game as time expired.

Moore's night ended early as he was whistled for five fouls though freshman Brayden Reynolds stepped up for 16 minutes off the bench with three assists and two rebounds while also picking up a steal.

Playing their game outside the arc, FDU's Roberts and Almonor each popped three made threes, tied with Sacred Heart's Mike Sixsmith for the game-high. Nico Gillette, a potential First Team All-NEC honoree, was dominant, shooting 12-for-20, tying with Roberts for the game-high in scoring at 27 points.

After one of the most exiting games of the campaign, FDU visits Wagner on Saturday, February 18 at 4 p.m. live on NEC Front Row as the Burgundy and Blue march down the stretch.

Just three games remain in the 2022-23 regular season with two on the road.
