Knights Bow Out in NEC Tournament First Round

Box Score

TEANECK, N.J. - The FDU Knights (8-11) (8-3) faced a challenging battle against Wagner (8-8-2) (6-5) in the first round of the NEC Tournament. Unfortunately the Knights couldn't overcome the early setbacks as Wagner secured a 3-0 victory, bringing an end to FDU's season.

How It Happened

1st Half
Wagner seized control early in the match opening the scoring in the 15' with a goal from Madison Carr. A well worked attack allowed Carr to break through FDU's defense and calmly slot the ball past Jakobsen, granting Wagner the lead.

The Seahawks doubled their advantage in the 24'. Jess Maraia showcased her skill by outmaneuvering a defender and striking the ball into the net with her left foot, extending Wagner's lead to two goals.

Olivia Rubbo added a third goal in the 33', firmly establishing their control over the match.

2nd Half
In the second half, the Knights displayed determination and passion but struggled to find the back of the net. Despite their spirited efforts they were unable to conjure any goals, leading to the conclusion of their season in the first round of the NEC Tournament.

Quotable

"It's an unfortunate way to end the season, I think for us this season we have not been great in the first half of games and today we couldn't get away with that. We know what we have from a talent perspective but to not put it all together is disappointing." Coach Teepe stated, "Hopefully we can learn from this, when teams play physical against us, we need to be able to be physical back. With such a young core we know there is much improvement to be made.
