One of three teams in Division I with both men's and women's basketball undefeated in conference action, FDU looks to keep the momentum going their way with the NEC's best offense averaging 78.8 points per game overall and 80.2 points per night against NEC foes. The Knights defense boasts the highest margin in the nine-team conference with FDU out-scoring their five league opponents by 11.0 points, holding the opposition to 69.2 points per game.
Demetre Roberts, the graduate student guard from Mount Vernon, N.Y. continues to make his presence felt on the hardwood with the St. Thomas Aquinas transfer third in scoring in the NEC at 18.4 p.p.g. Roberts posted a spectacular finish in the Martin Luther King Jr. Day tilt at Stonehill as the fifth-year member of
Tobin Anderson's backcourt tallied 15 points in the game's final nine minutes after scoring just three points in the opening half by way of three made free throws. Roberts would comeback to score a game-high 21 points.
His two-time teammate
Grant Singleton earned himself NEC Co-Player of the Week, his second Player of the Week nod this season, after finishing with 20 points in 30 minutes off the bench against the Blue Devils and a dazzling 18-point performance in the Knights' first-ever meeting with Stonehill. The Sumter, S.C. native crashed the glass on both ends of the floor, grabbing a team-best 11 boards over the two-game trip with 10 caroms coming off the defensive end. Perfect from the free throw line with a two-game total of seven made baskets from the foul line in seven tries, Singleton contributed 12-of-19 shooting from the field (63.2 percent) and laced seven three-pointers with four coming against the Skyhawks.
Following the first meeting of the season with the Skyhawks, Roberts commented that "We defended very well which made us get better shots on the other end. Not being rushed and being able to feed off each-other definitely helped the effort tonight."
Enjoying the friendly confines of the Rothman Center, FDU welcome Saint Francis U (Pa.) on Thursday, Jan. 26 at 7 p.m. before heading to Merrimack on Saturday, Jan. 28. The matchup against the Warriors will air live on ESPN3 as part of the NEC's robust television package.
