Inside the Box score

How it Happened

Set 1

  • It took FDU a while to get started but after the first kill of the day from Ruggiero with the Knights down a point, the group found their rhythm.
  • After a kill from Tatijana Fucka (15-15) FDU went on a six-point run to build a gap and win the set 25-18.
  • Ruggiero hit .900 with four kills for the Knights.

Set 2

  •  FDU had an early six-point lead at 10-4 but Stonehill closed that gap to tie it at 11. FDU regained control of the game to pull ahead and win the set 25-21.

Set 3

  • Stonehill led set three early (9-3) and maintained that lead for most of the set. FDU started to close that gap and managed to tie it up a (23-23) and would go on to win the set 26-24.
  • Giorgio Vaschetti was a key contributor late in the set solidifying the Knights passing and Schmidt's hustle to keep rallies alive ignited the Burgundy and Blue.
  • A massive kill from Spiridonokas finally gave FDU the lead at 24-23. Stonehill received a break from a mishit by Nott to tie the set again, but Nott responded with another kill to put  FDU up for good.

Quotable

"It was good to see our team come back from such a deficit and take the match." Coach David Nguyen said. "The team stayed confident, knowing we are capable of coming back. I hope we don't need to do that very often but at least we know it's a possibility if we need to."

"It was a tough fight the majority of set 3, but I'm proud of how we all stepped up on defense and intensity to finish it out." Hannah Schmidt said.
