HACKENSACK, Nj- FDU women's volleyball (6-10, 1-0) took home a victory in their first NEC match of the season at Stratis Arena defeating Merrimack (5-11, 0-1) 3-0 (25-14, 25-17, 25-16.)
Set 1
- Set one started with an instant kill to the middle back from Fucka followed by an ace from Sophia Spiridonakos setting a great pace for the Knights.
- Merrimack was sluggish early resulting in hitting errors (-.114) and nothing got past Fisk with three blocks
- FDU took the set 25-14.
Set 2
- Set 2 started with two aces from Schmidt. Following a kill from Fisk with the score 16-15, the home side pulled ahead to win the set 25-17 with a set-winning block from Spiridonakos.
Set 3
- FDU was able to get on several short runs early in set three at 10-4 and 14-5 to create a gap and keep it throughout. FDU would close the set 24-16.
"Feels good to start conference play with a win." Coach David Nguyen said. "We are working hard in practice, and it shows on the court. Another match tomorrow to keep getting better."
"I think there is a very positive feeling going into tomorrow," captain Tessa Fisk said. "It was really motivating to get a conference sweep at home and all around we just feel really optimistic for not only tomorrow but the rest of the season!"
