BRONX, NY. - FDU women's volleyball (1-3) fell to Fordham (2-1) in the first match of the Rose Hill Classic, hosted by the Rams, Friday morning.
Set 1
Set 2
- As the set opened, Fordham jumped out to an early 10-3 and didn't look back.
- The Rams hit .444 in the set and were too much for the Knights in the set winning 25-10.
Set 3
- FDU recovered during the time between sets and started strong by dominating at the net early, earning a six-point lead and forcing a Fordham timeout.
- FDU stayed aggressive maintaining their lead with six kills from Rampazzo and aces from Emily Van O'Linda and Vittoria Bertoli.
- FDU finished the set on top, 25-15.
Set 4
- Knights head coach David Nguyen called an early timeout down four and FDU changed the game with an instant kill and block from Fucka and an ace from Rampazzo.
- Fordham's middle Blocker Chloe Pejouan caused trouble for the Knights by blocking everything FDU sent over. There was great coverage from Allegra Rivas and Megan Bushnell but they could not hold off the Rams who won the set 25-13.
Set 5
- Fordham took a 7-2 lead over FDU but the Burgundy and Blue were able to close that gap one point trailing 9-8.
- The Rams responded with a 6-1 run to secure the set victory 15-9 and the match.
"That was a weird back-and-forth battle," said Nguyen. "At the end of the day, it turned into a serve-and-pass chess match. Unfortunately, we were not able to figure it out but overall there was a lot of good volleyball from both sides. We look forward to bouncing back tomorrow."
FDU is back at Fordham tomorrow, Saturday, September 3 for the second day of the Rose Hill Classic with two matches, first taking on Niagara at 11 a.m. followed by the finale against Penn at 5 p.m.
