HACKENSACK, N.J. - Just over 20 days after his arrival on the banks of the Hackensack, FDU men's basketball head coach
Tobin Anderson didn't have to look too far from home to find his first two additions to the Burgundy and Blue as
Demetre Roberts and
Grant Singleton reunite with their undergraduate head coach at FDU it was announced Tuesday. Both guards will spend their fifth season of eligibility as graduate students and join Anderson for his first season in the Northeast Conference.
"I have been lucky enough to coach Demetre and Grant for four years and together we have had great success and won a lot of games," remarked Anderson in an interview. "Their work ethic and competitive fire will help us establish our culture here and I have no doubt they will have an immediate impact at FDU on and off the court!"
The 5-foot-8 Roberts was STAC's leading scorer last season, averaging 16.4 points per game for a team-best 526 points this past season in Sparkill. Over his four years as a Spartan, the Mount Vernon, N.Y. native totaled 1,585, 411 assists, 317 rebounds and 155 steals. Expecting to begin his Master's in Sport Management at FDU's International School of Hospitality and Tourism Management come fall 2022, Roberts was the 2019 East Coast Conference (ECC) Rookie of the Year and earned Second Team All-ECC honors after his first campaign. From his sophomore season until graduation, the Mount Vernon High School product earned First Team All-ECC recognition, earned NABC Division II All-East District honors and garnered All-Met Honors from the Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association (MBWA). Additionally, Roberts was named the ECC Tournament Most Outstanding Player in 2022 and earned a spot on the D2CCA All-East Region Second Team. Playing in 32 games in 2021-22, Roberts stood among the national Division II leaders in several categories including: assists per game, free throws made, free throw percentage, steals per game, total assists, total field goals made, total steals and total points. He has five siblings: Kaiden, Tavien, Kameron, Meko and Maison.
Joining his fellow Spartan on the hardwood at the Rothman, Singleton looks to build upon an impressive collegiate career as he transitions to the Division I stage. A 1,000-point scorer like Roberts, the 6-foot Sumter, S.C. product tallied 1,115 points in 111 games for STAC. Off the glass, Singleton used his speed to amass 312 boards (46 offensive, 266 defensive) in addition to 275 assists. In 2021-22, Singleton was named to the Second Team All-ECC and graduated from STAC with a computer science degree. Last season, Singleton finished 86th in Division II in assist-to-turnover ratio and was 63rd in steals per game out of 250 ranked student-athletes. Finishing the highest of any STAC player last season in any national statistical ranking, the Lakewood High School grad ranked 26th in total steals with 60, also leading the ECC. He has two siblings, Bradley and Ken.
