TEANECK, N.J. - The Fairleigh Dickinson baseball team (23-28, 15-11 NEC) clinched the weekend series against Sacred Heart (12-40, 9-17 NEC) with an 8-4 win on Friday afternoon at Naimoli Family Baseball Complex.
How it happened
- The Pioneers opened the scoring with a solo home run in the second inning and a two-RBI single to center in the third.
- FDU responded with two runs in the bottom of the fourth to make it 2-3. William Pope scored on an RBI double to right field by Brelon Harden; then Harden reached home on an RBI double to center by Justin Sierra.
- George Rosales tied the game at 3-3 with a solo home run in the bottom of the fifth.
- The Knights plated five runs during the sixth inning to take a commanding lead.
- Sacred Heart scored one run in the top of the seventh, but it was not enough to catch up to FDU.
Inside the box
- Nick Evangelista threw 4.0 innings in the start, allowing three earned runs on five hits and striking out five. Michael DiMartino improved to 3-0 on the season after pitching 2.2 innings, surrendering only one run and striking out two. Jude Baxt pitched 1.1 innings, striking out three. Ethan Rembish tossed the final inning with a pair of strikeouts.
- Sierra went 2-5 with one RBI and a double.
- Joan Sosa went 2-4 with one run, one RBI, one double, and a walk.
- Rosales went 3-3 with two RBIs, one run, and a home run.
- Harden went 2-4 with two runs, one RBI, one double, and a stolen base.
