ROCHESTER, N.Y. - Don't stop the music. Fairleigh Dickinson women's bowling is still dancing and have marched their way into the 2022 NCAA National Collegiate Women's Bowling Championship Final Four, scheduled to be played on April 15 and 16, in Columbus, Ohio following the team's 2-0 Mega Match victory over #2 Nebraska, the top seed in the Rochester Regional.
In search of the third national title in program history, FDU came out swinging, emerging with a 1,056-996 traditional scoring win fueled by graduate student
Aimee Sherman. The Jackson, N.J. product fueled FDU with a team-high 246. Sherman struck in nine of 12 attempts. She rolled strikes in her final six shots and on the day, bowled 20 clean frames. Moving to the second format, Second Team All-NEC honoree
Amanda Chrzanowski, a fellow fifth-year, proved her mettle, holding down the anchor position as the Knights cruised to a 1,007-951 victory in the second leg of the Mega Match to take the region by a 2-0 mark over the Huskers.
"A little over a week ago, I felt that nothing compared to the exhilaration we had felt after being selected to the NCAA tournament with a wild card berth. Well, I was wrong," remarked head coach
Mike LoPresti. "Winning the Rochester Regional and advancing to the NCAA Final Four definitely tops it. This group continues to accomplish extraordinary feats. Today, Nebraska, the defending national champs and the NCAA's most storied bowling program, was the team obstructing our climb into the Final Four. It's always a chore to defeat the defending champs, particularly from the program who owns the most titles."
Junior
Cameron Spring displayed incredible resilience and consistency, rolling a 202 in traditional play along with a mark of 203 in Baker total pinfall. The Allegany, N.Y. native and one-time NEC Bowler of the Week this season hails from just shy of two hours of Rochester and has been a mainstay in the Knights' lineup this season.
Additionally, redshirt sophomore
Julianna Spina and graduate student and First Team All-NEC member
Jenna Henderson got the hit on strikes when the team needed it most, helping fuel momentum to top the Huskers at Bowl-A-Roll Lanes.
The last Northeast Conference team remaining in this year's championship, FDU joins McKendree, Vanderbilt and Stephen F. Austin as this year's Final Four teams set to embark on Wayne Webb's Columbus Bowl next week in the Buckeye State. FDU is making their 14th appearance in the NCAA tournament this season, the second since 2017 and the second in as many years as the Knights earned the NEC's automatic qualifier last season to the championship which was held in North Kansas City, Mo.
"Led by the exceptional performances of our trio of grad students, we did it. Our season has been extended another week," LoPresti continued. "We're one of four teams left standing in this marathon season. Extraordinary? Absolutely. Proud? You bet! Satisfied? Not a chance."
In Columbus, the Knights' first matchup comes against Vanderbilt on Friday, April 15, at 9 a.m. live on NCAA.com. Fans can
