CHARLOTTE, N.C. - FDU men's volleyball toppled Alderson Broaddus on Friday afternoon as they faced the Battlers for the third time this season in match two of the IVA Tournament.
With 55 kills and 10 service aces, the Knights recorded their most points in a single match this season. Leading the cause was Artem Vetrov and Lorenzo Bonomo who each recorded a season-high 17 points in the showdown.
Jack Lydon tabbed his third double-double of the season, recording 12 kills and 10 digs for a total 13.5 points.
With season high performances, Jose Angarita and Grady Hoffman anchored the Knights throughout the match. Angarita logged 49 assists, adding five points with four attacks and an ace. At libero, Grady Hoffman notched 21 digs to lead both teams.

How it Happened

The Knights dominated in the first set, depositing 13 kills while holding the Battlers to a .040 clip. With five kills of his own, Vetrov led FDU to take the set 25-15.

The second set was a tight battle as neither team held more than a two-point lead from the start. An enduring rally resulting in a kill by Vetrov gave FDU an advantage that they would carry to the final point.

On a six-point run, FDU took control early in the third set. Vetrov and Bonomo combined for nine kills as Alderson Broaddus crept up to take their first lead at 22-21. The Battlers maintained the edge to steal the third set 25-23.

The Knights established momentum early in the final set to come out with a 5-1 advantage. Angarita added back-to-back kills to extend the lead to 12 as FDU commanded the set. Hitting a 42.3 percent average, the Knights dropped the Battlers 25-12.

Next Up
The Knights will conclude their battle in the IVA Tournament Saturday at 10:30 a.m. as they compete in the fifth place consolation match against the winner of match eight against Tusculum and D'Youville.
