Men's Volleyball Falls in Tight Battle to Princeton

HACKENSACK, NJ - FDU Men's Volleyball faced the Princeton Tigers in Stratis Arena in a Saturday afternoon showdown. The Knights fought hard, and posted several season-highs, but ultimately fell to the Tigers 3-1.

How it Happened

Set One:

- The Knights came out strong on the offensive front, with a double-block from Artem Vetrov and Mihajlo Rodic, and a kill from Lorenzo Bonomo.

- Jack Lydon, Lorenzo Bonomo, Artem Vetrov added several kills in the set to trade points to eighteen.

- Lydon added three more kills to the end of the set to bring the Knights to 21.

-Princeton closed the set on a 7-3 run, dropping the Knights 25-21.

Set Two:

-The teams traded points to 5, but the Knights then recorded four kills and a service ace by Lydon to put them up 10-6.

-The Tigers answered and the score tied up to 13-13.

- The Knights and Tigers traded points as the set stayed close and tied at 25-25.

- FDU tallied 15 kills in the set on a .333 clip to record their best performance of the match.

- A final kill by Lydon earned the Knights the set as they finished 27-25.

Set Three:

-The third set opened up with several attack errors from the Tigers and a few kills from Lydon and Vetrov brought the score to 11-10, Princeton.

-The Knights would continue to trail for the rest of the set, but several kills from Bonomo would keep the set competitive.

-The set ended with five more points from the Tigers and seven points from the Knights, but this was not enough for the Knights to take the set.

-The Tigers held control through the final half of the set to finish with a 25-21 lead.

Set Four:

-The final set opened in another tight battle as Rui Fernandes and Vetrov deposited a pair of kills to keep the Knights at pace with the Tigers.

-FDU went on a 9-4 run courtesy of several kills from Vetrov and Lydon to take the score to 12-7. 

- The Knights stayed in control for much of the set, but the Tigers had answers and tied the score 23-23.

-A pair of kills from Vetrov took the Knights to 25-24, but FDU was unable to gain the last point needed to win the set.

-FDU and Princeton traded points, but the Knights fell to the Tigers in a hard fought set, 28-26.

Inside the Box Score

-The Knights posted their best clip of the season in the second set recording 15 kills.

-Vetrov, Lydon, and Bonomo recorded a combined 44 kills out of the teams 51.  Anchoring the Knights was Artem Vetrov with a season high 16 kills.   

-Rui Fernandes logged a breakout performance with a season-best 41 assists, 2 aces and four blocks for 6.5 points.  Fernandes also posted 12 digs followed by Grady Hoffman with 10 digs.

The Knights will wrap up their regular season at home on Friday, April 8th at 7PM against George Mason in Stratis Arena.
