FDU Men's Volleyball Falls in Final Home Match

HACKENSACK, N.J. - The Knights hosted George Mason on Friday evening in the final home match of their inaugural season, falling in straight sets.

Jack Lydon and Artem Vetrov led for the Knights with nine points each, combining for 11 of FDU's 16 kills in the third set. It was Rui Fernandes who anchored the Knights, pacing the team with 20 assists and nine digs while adding a crucial pair of kills in the final set.

Other big contributions came from Santiago La Jara who logged seven kills and two blocks for eight points, leading the Knights with four kills in the first set.

 

How it Happened

Set One

-The Patriots jumped out to an early lead with four kills to force an FDU timeout.

-A 4-1 spurt with a kill by La Jara put the Knights within one of the Patriots midway through the set.

-The Patriots created distance on a 6-1 run, carrying the lead to end the set 25-16.

Set Two

-With the Patriots at a 6-2 advantage, the Knights strung together a series of kills off assists by Fernandes to shrink the gap.

-George Mason's Jack Bolz deposited five kills late in the set to reopen a Patriot lead.

-A final pair of kills by Vetrov was not enough to close the gap, as the Knights dropped the set 25-17.

Set Three

-The Knights opened set three with five kills to establish an advantage.

-As the teams traded points to eight, Lydon posted a solo block followed by a pair of kills to break open a two-point edge.

-As the Patriots managed to knot the score at 16, Vetrov downed eight quick kills to regain the Knights lead.

-The Patriots took control on a final four point run, sweeping the Knights in the third set, 25-23.
